The biggest trout ever caught in Pennsylvania was taken from the waters of Spring creek, within Bellefonte borough limits, by Al Hoffman, a local fisherman. says the Philadelphia Public Ledger. The trout was of the rainbow variety and measured 25 inches in length. was 5 1/2 inches deep across the side, 3 1/4 inches across the back and weighed 6 1/4 pounds. The trout was caught on an eel set line. In its mouth were found six fishhooks and pieces of troll line. showing that the trout had been a good biter, but just as good in breaking away from the angler. even at the expense of taking hook and line. The fish is to be mounted and sent to State Fish Commissioner Meehan.
