THE SNAKE COMMITTED SUICIDE

Walter must be a cool headed boy if the story he tells is unquestionable. While he and "Spider" Girow were seeking a cool place, eggs, and what not, last Friday, they came upon an unexpected rattle snake. Just before the snake sprang, "Spider" scotched it but did not kill it, and Walter who stood near, says he counted thirteen rattles.

But one thing about the incident is interesting andveracious, that the wounded snake wound about the limb of a tree and bit itself in two. It is said that this is not at all uncommon, and often large snakes when hurt, seem to have this instinct of death and choose snake suicide rather than surrender to the enemy.
