Many Citizens Came to the Front with Cash

LADY WAS THE FIRST

To Get a Receipt - Largest First Day Since July Payments Began

Wednesday was a banner first day in the City Treasurer's office, the largest amount having been taken in on the July tax roll that has ever been received on a first day since the plan of paying taxes in July was inaugurated. The City Treasurer received $3,408.97 yesterday, $2,500 of the amount having been paid before noon, and was kept busy all day writing receipts.

The Second ward has the honor of being the first to send in a representative to deposit her share of the city's expenses and a lady, Mrs. Pauline Row, secured the first receipt given out Wednesday. The second ward to come in was the Sixth and its representative was also a lady, Mrs. Pauline Row, secured the first receipt given out Wednesday. Then followed the Third, John Karberg; Fourth, David Henning estate; Fifth, Mary Burnham; First, Carl Rominger, and the Seventh ward last, C. E. Greene.

The total number of persons paying taxes Wednesday was 124, the wards being represented as follows: First ward, 21; Second ward, 13; Third, 13; Fourth, 16; Fifth, 14; Sixth, 28; Seventh, 19.
