Monday evening Wm. Sams received his weekly stipend of filthy lucre and proceeded to imbibe too freely of the joy-provoking fluid. Jesse Freeman, colored, was also out on pleasure bent and he and Sams met on the avenue. Freeman immediately conceived the idea that Sams needed a caretaker and proceeded to take his money away from him and place it where he could get it today. While engaged in this laudable undertaking, Sams' son, William, came along and, thinking his father was being robbed, waded into Freeman without waiting for explanations. Result-- Sams junior and Freeman were lodged in jail by Officer O'Mara and on Tuesday on appearing before Justice Doty were each taxed $2 and costs. Sams understood things better this morning and paid Freeman's share of the penalty.
