LATE NEWS IN BRIEF.

Young Physicians Drowned.––Dr. Adolph Cuddle and Dr. Ernest H. Luete, two prominent young Cleveland physicians, were drowned in Lake Erie, at Cleveland, Wednesday night while swimming.

Shot Prison Keeper.––Prison Keeper James H. Gunderman of the New York State reformatory, was shot by a convict named Moore, who he had threatened to report for violation of the rules.

Bryan a Farmer Delegate.––Governor Mickey of Nebraska has appointed W. J. Bryan one of sixty-two delegates from Nebraska to the National Farmers' congress at Niagara Falls September 22.

Must Speak English.–– Judge Clifford D. Gregory, in rejecting sixty applications for naturalization papers, established a precedent by making the following declaration: "I will not naturalize any person who comes before me and is unable to speak the English language sufficiently to make himself understood."

Reproaches the King.–– Michael Davitt, in a long letter published in the London Daily News, reproaches King Edward for his failure, during his visit to Ireland, to exercise royal clemency and liberate Colonel Lynch, the only remaining Irish political prisoner. He declares that no other monarch in Europe would have neglected such clemency in similar circumstances.
