Fooled With A Loaded Gun
Careless Handling of Rifle in a Restaurant
Young Man Thought He Had Extracted All the Cartridges - Result Might Have Been Serious
An incident occurred at Woodward Bros.' restaurant Sunday at the dinner hour that might have had serious consequences. While a number of people were at dinner a young man connected with the local militia company was handling one of the rifles with which the company is provided. It had five cartridges in it. He removed four and apparently thought all had been taken out. While examining the gun he happened to pull the trigger when it went off, startling the diners and making a hole through the floor. Had the gun been elevated a little the consequences might have been serious.
At best there ought to be a lesson in the incident which will prevent such a happening in future, at least on the part of the one concerned in this.
