ANOTHER RARE OLD VIOLIN
OWNED BY AN ANN ARBOR MAN FOR FIFTY-FIVE YEARS
It Has a History Extending Over 155 Years
Mr. L. B. Smith, of 214 South Thayer street, owns a violin which is over 155 years old. Hehimself has owned it for 55 years this month. He says of the violin:
"This violin came down as an heirloom in a family by the name of Burlingame from grandfather to grandson, who lived about ten miles from the city of Providence, R. I., and was bought from this grandson by Cyrus H. Harris, a cotton mill owner of the village of Greenville, same state, who owned it for 15 years and of whom I purchased it in the month of August, 1848. Hence it has a record of 155 or more years. This violin, when kept in constant use, had a very full sweet tone and was pronounced by good judges of violins as an excellent and very perfect toned instrument, with a good value appraised thereon."
