Soine interesting facts concerning our schools are found in Prof. Slauon's annual report. During the past four years 283 Ann rbor hign sciiool stuilents have enered the varlous flepertmenta of the University. During the past year there have been tudents in the high school froni nineeen states other than Michigan and rom eight foreign states and terrlories and from 77 towns in Michigan. Room is needed in the high school or permanent seats for all below the enior class. The pernicious liabit of two or more ersons "studying together" often renlts in students falling into a helpless ondition. Au addition is needed to the high chool building. Work in manual training is distinctly helpful in all other branches. The salary schedule of grade teachers makes no provisión for experience gained elsewhere than in Ann Arbor. As it is bow the teacher starts at $300 a year and advances $25 a year until in the fifth year her salary is $400. There is then no increase until the eighth year and from then on there is an increase of $25 in altérnate years until in the fifteenth year the maximum of $500 is reached. During the past year there wera 2,457 pupils enrolled in the schools as follows: High school 616, Eighth grade 106, Perry school 372, Bach 328, Mack 332, Jones 247, Fifth ward 13 i. Tappan 322. There are 63 teachers employed, of whorn 20 are in the high school. Gertrude Marsh holds the banner for attendance, having been neither absent ïor tardy for six years, while Nellie Fields and Fred Wahr hold the fiveyear record. ïhe nmnber of pupils taking various studies in the high school the past year has been as follows: English 479, Latín 27C, Germán 122, Frenen 58, (i reek 14, algebra 415, arithmetic 148, geometry 121, trigonometry 33, chemtstry 116, physics 116, zoology 70, botany 89, astronomy 14, bookkeeping TT, civil government 72, commercial luw 10, commercial correspondence 10, eloeution 83, English literature 46, English grammar 58, TT.
