What the Beakes St. Sewer Will Cost

New Telephone Co.

Begins Work within the Pave District of City—Last Night's Council Meeting

The council Monday decided to enforce the ordinance requiring dray men to stand on the hay market back of the opera house and jail. They passed the curbing of the Liberty street hill and the construction of gutters over the mayor's veto and accepted the William street sewer. They decided to make parties digging up the streets deposit cash before beginning work to repair damage.

The William street sewer cost $2,083.02, of which the city is to pay $189.42 and the property owners $1,893.60.

The engineer estimated that the proposed sanitary sewer on Beakes street, Kingsley street, Fourth and Fifth avenues would cost $5,293.69, of which the city would pay $463.20.

The engineer submitted a plan for connecting cellars with the sanitary sewer, which was referred to the ordinance committee to make the necessary changes in the ordinance.

It was decided to spend $125 to continue the culvert built by the Ann Arbor road to the west line of the street.

The sidewalk committee recommended a number of new walks.

The Washtenaw Home Telephone Co. notified the city that they were to begin work yesterday in the alleyway between Fourth and Fifth avenues on the underground subway of the Washtenaw Home Telephone Co. As this involved the tearing up of some of the Liberty street pavement, after notice had been served to build the conduit before the pavement was laid, the notice brought up some kicks on the part of the aldermen, but no action was taken further than that the city attorney was asked to look up the ordinance carefully.

It was practically decided to widen the culvert at Felch Street on Allen creek, although opinions as to the cost varied from $500 to $1,500. An estimate of cost will be obtained.

Some interesting petitions were presented and some routine business done.
