The French Academy of Sciences has just chosen Dr. Koch to replace the late Professor Virchow as foreign member. Twenty-eight votes were given for Dr. Koch, against eighteen for Mr. Agassiz, curator at Harvard university; eleven for S. P. Langely of Washington, and one for Professor van der Vals of Amsterdam. The choice is looked upon as a distinct triumph for the German savant, after the violent campaign carried on against him by certain French practitioners.
