Jackson, Mich., Oct. 14.- W. A. Foote, secretary of the Jackson & Battle Creek Traction Co., one of the electric lines reported to be included among the roads between Detroit and Kalamazoo to be merged, disclaims any knowledge of a combine. He says at a regular meeting of his company at Toledo Monday the matter of a possible merger was not discussed. He stated that Mr. Hawkes had not called upon them with any such a proposition, and so far as he knew, there is no basis for the story.

Mr. Foote also stated that there was nothing of truth in the report which included the Boland lines east of Jackson.  "It is still the plans to complete this road east to Ann Arbor and Detroit," he said. He considered the reports of the merger without foundation. He spoke of the proposition often mentioned of the Detroit United purchasing the Detroit, Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor and Jackson railway, and gave as his belief that the obstacle in the way of that deal was the exorbitant price asked by the Hawkes-Angus people.

He suggested that the talk of a combine was intended to impress the Detroit United people with the desirability of the road, to induce them to pay the price asked.
