Jackson county was assessed by the assessing officers at $32,461,535, of which $14,939,978 was in Jackson city. The board of state tax commissioners raised Jackson city about a million and a half and the townships about $220,000, making their total valuation $34,226,518. This was not enough for the board of supervisors, who equalized on the basis of $34,000,000, half of which was charged up to the county and half to the city. In other words, the state board figures were lowered $743,410 in the tonships an raised $516,892 in the city.
