Joseph Wagner, a well known farmer who lives about two miles and a half out West Liberty street, was instantly killed in a runaway just before noon Saturday. He was driving a spirited horse into town which ran way with him. He was alone in the buggy and when the horse reached Klager's the wagon ran off the embankment and Wagner was pitched out headfirst onto hard ground. A hole five or six inches deep plowed close to the fence post and when picked up Mr. Wagner was dead. Death probably resulted instantly.

The horse ran a little distance further and stopped itself.

Mr. Wagner lives out West Liberty street two miles and a half and in addition to farming runs a cider mill. He was 40 or 45 years of ago and leaves a wife and two sons. He was a nephew of M. Staebler and a brother-in-law of M. Brenner.
