THOUGHT WIFE HAD GONE
Ashley Street Woman Left Home Suddenly
HUSBAND WAS FRANTIC
When He Could Not Locate Her - Reported to Sheriff Who Found Her Today
Sheriff Gauntlett had a bad night, Friday, and woke up next morning feeling that the pleasures of the Wisconsin-Michigan game would have to be put aside for more strenuous duties. The cause of his worriment was the reported mysterious disappearance of an Ashley street woman and the pleadings of the husband that all the machinery of the law be put to work to discover his lost partner.
As the story was given to the officers the woman, after a few words with her husband, arose from the supper table Tuesday evening and, snatching her baby in her arms, left the house bareheaded and without wraps, and although he had searched dilligently for her no trace could he find.
The husband telegraphed to Cleveland and Detroit, in each of which places the couple have friends, but nothing could be learned there and finally, driven to desperation, he reported the matter to the officials last night.
The sheriff went to work at once and figured on a tough job, but Saturday he discovered that the woman had been seen Friday afternoon and it was but a short time before she was located at a home on W. Liberty street, where she had taken refuge.
The wife explains the matter by saying that the husband had been drinking and was abusive, so she thought she would leave the house and give him time to sober up.
