NEARLY BLED TO DEATH

Fred Heusel Cut His Arm on Plate Glass

SEVERED ALL ARTERIES

His Presence of Mind in Seeking Immediate Aid Undoubtedly Saved His Life

Fred Heuseul, son of Frederick Heusel the baker, met with an accident Monday that came very near costing his life and may yet have serious effects. The young man, with another lad, was scuffling in the front room of Heusel Bros.'  bakery last evening, when the other lad broke away from him and ran through a swinging door into the back room, throwing the door shut behind him. The door came back with such force that young Heusel's fist went through the glass window in it, making a jagged hole. The glass was of heavy plate and the sharp edges cut Heusel's left arm frightfully, severing every artery. The young man at once ran to Dawson Bros.' drug store, where Chas. Dawson tied a bandage around the injured arm, stopping the flow of blood, and called Dr. E. K. Herdman. The doctor ahd Husel removed to his office and, with the assistance of Dr. Wm. J. Herdman, dressed the arm.

The job was a particularly hard and tedious one as the arteries, where severed had been rendered ragged, and it was very difficult to make the stitches hold, it taking nearly three hours to complete the work. The young man was removed to his home and today is reported as doing very nicely.
