Relic From Iona Island
RELIC FROM IONA ISLAND
Famous Saced Stone Destined For Washington Cathedral.
An old and weather worn stone of somewhat checkered appearance is soon to become a precious relic and a priceless possession of the new cathedral at Washington, says the New York Amer ican. Lady Susan Grant, who is the daughter of Sir Alexander and Lady Grant of Edinburgh, recently arrived in the United States and has in her keeping this relic, taken from the floor of the ruins of the old cathedral on the island of Iona, in which in the year 563 Saint Colomba stood and preached the gospel to the ancient Britons.
Miss Grant has an authentication from the custodian of the cathedral and from the bishop of Argyll and the Isles, who sends it in her care to the Right Rev. Henry V. Satterlee, Episcopal bishop of Washington.
