ANDERSON INQUEST HELD TODAY
-----
The inquest over the death of Frank Anderson, the Dixboro teamster who was killed by a Michigan Central train at Delhi station Saturday, was held by Coroner Watts at martin's undertaking establishment yesterday morning.
The only witnesses of the accident were the engineer of the train, John Scellen, and his fireman, John B. La Chance, who testified that on account of the curve at that place they did not see Anderson until they were within 150 feet of the crossing. The engineer has just whistled for the station and when he observed Anderson preparing to cross the tracks directly ahead he whistled again and put on the emergency brakes. Anderson did not heed the signals, however, and the engine struck him fairly in the upper part of the body and head. A gang of section hands were at work near by and the engineer left the body in their charge.
Eugene Cummings and Henry Davis testified to picking up the body and carrying it to Anderson's room, near by, and Dr. A. K. Hale told of making the medical examination. James Hanby said that Anderson was in his employ as teamster and that while he was not exactly feeble minded, he was yet far from being alert and intelligent. James Hanby, jr., also testified as to the deceased mental condition.
The jury made no attempt to exonerate or blame the railroad in their verdict, merely giving the time, manner, and cause of death.
