GEMS OF ART IN PERRY SCHOOL
----
BEAUTIFUL PICTURES ADORN HALLS OF BUILDING
----
The Perry school has spent its one hundred dollars, secured its pictures, and the long white corridors are halls of beauty.
When the entertainment was given last winter by the school, with the object of buying a piano, the success was so far beyond expectations that, after the piano was paid for, one hundred dollars still remained on hand. It was decided to leave this amount to the discretion of the teachers of the school for disposal, and their unanimous decision was to buy pictures with it, with an artistic and educational aim in view. After communicating with many art firms, the matter was turned over to the DeFries Art Co., of this city, who made the money to realize considerably more than the teachers could have done. Six large pictures were bought and two reliefs. Near the primary room is Raphael's Sistine Madonna in carbon, and along the same corridor is an oval relief of the Bambano from the Children's hospital at Florence and Guido Reni's Aurora, in colors, mounted in dark brown oak. On the floor above is the English history department, and the first large picture as you go into the hall is the Story of King Arthur, as told by Tennyson, from the time he was put in the hands of the old King Merlin until it is revealed to him who his mother is. The picture was secured by the DeFries Co. from the Prang Educational Co. by whom it is put out exclusively in flat tone work by Lucy Fitch Perkins. The relief on this hall is the Della Robbia Boys with trumpets, which represents the old Olympic games. Stratford on Avon is at the end of the hall, a large carbon mounted in brown oak. This comes into much use when the classes take up their Shakespeare study. Much interest was taken in the hanging of the pictures for the friends of the school and its vicinity came in to assist.
