A PLEASING XMAS ENTERTAINMENT

BY SCHOOL CHILDREN OF DISTRICT NO. 5, SCIO

Given Last Friday Evening -- Large Attendance of Parents and Friends

A delightful Christmas entertainment was given at Scio School District, No. 5, last Friday evening, Dec. 18. People began to arrive as early as 6:30, and by the time for the program to begin the school house was crowded, there being at least 150 present. The walls and platform were tastefully and handsomely decorated with evergreen, mottoes, flags and bunting. A prettily trimmed Christmas tree stood at one end of the stage. The audience was delightfully entertained before the curtain rose by a March given by Mr. Aprill, who also payed several airs, being accompanied by the voices of some of the school boys. When the program was finished, the children, hearing sleighbells ringing, quietly took their places on the stage and sang "Welcome to Santa." As they finished the last line Santa appeared on the scene and every child sat down on the stage. Santa Claus No. 1 had no sooner opened his heavy sack before Santa Claus No. 2 came cautiously in and at once moved in the direction of the stove, saying that he was very cold, having come a long way. Both of the Santas talked with the children and shook hands with them. Twenty-four little hearts were delighted with candies nuts and several presents. The children thought that the Santa Claus' sacks would never be emptied. Santa Claus did not forget the teacher, who received a very handsome present from her scholars. At about 10:30 the crowd began to disperse and "Merry Christmas" was heard on every side. The teacher, Catherine Purtell, wishes to thank Miss Luella Volz and Mss Elsa Stein, who so kindly helped to make the entertainment such a success. Thanks are also due to all the parents and friends, who it is hoped, will remember that although we can ot meet them at an entertainment very often, we cordially invite them to come and visit the school whenever and as often as they can.
