Father Was Her Guardian and Spent $27,500 on Capt. Streeters' Pipe Dream
Mrs. Clara Laing Malcolm, of this city, has begun proceedings in Chicago to find out what has become of a $135,000 estate entrusted to her father, G. W. Laing, a former Chicago real estate dealer.
Mrs. Malcolm says she did not know that she was an heiress until after her marriage and removal to Ann Arbor from Lapeer last June. Her father has occasionally sent her small sums of money, but she has but recently learned that he was holding an estate in trust for her.
Laing failed to appear in Probate Judge Cutting's court in Chicago, but his expense account as guardian shows such expenditures as $27,500 for land in Capt. Streeter's "District of Lake Michigan" made without permission of the court.
