DROVE A DRAY WITHOUT A LICENSE

TOOK OWNER'S PLACE AND GOT ARRESTED

William Marshall, a negro, wants to add to the biblical statement about the sins of a parent and his unfortunate offspring, a clause to the affect that the misdoings of an employer are sometimes paid for by his employee.

Marshall was arrested by Officer Kelsey Saturday morning charged with driving a dray without a license, and in Justice Doty's court he explained that he was temporarily a driver for Jake Beck and supposed that the dray was licensed.

"I started driving yesterday," he said, "and was going to stop tonight, as I was only on while Beck went to Ypsilanti on some business. I haven't made a darned cent, and then to be arrested and fined for something Beck is to blame for, is pretty hard."

Justice Doty told Marshall he would let him off for the costs, provided he would take out a license for the dray, and he also gave him until tonight to see Beck or in some other way to get the money.
