At the lat congresslonal election, in the fourth district of Arkansas, Cute, Che democratie candidato, nceived 15,775 votes, Featherston, the uniuii labor candidate, 14,228, and scatteriiiff 483. Cate holds the seat. wliicli is coutested by Featherston, and the following deacrlption of a ballot liox whlch was in the hands of a coimiiittee shows how he stole it: "It was made of tin and shaped somewhat like a United Sutes mail box. In the top Is a hole in which to place the ballets. Around this hole is a llnnge one-third of an inch In heigbt. Upon i liis llange is litted a cap about an inch in longtbi and somewhat wider than the dlstance across the flinge. This cnp, too, is open at the top and is placed over the flange whicb surrounds the opening in the box. It Is so adjusted that the judge receiving the tickets may push it through the cap downward into the box or bctweco the cap and the (lange on the outslde of the box. To the voter standing In front and observing the operatlon, tin; ballot WOtlld appear to go into the box. It was demonstrated to the committce just how the voting was done, and tickets wtiioh appeared to go Into the box every time were votd ui or out at the wlll of the operator representing the judge who received the ballot." The manufacturar of this swindling contrivance testilicd that he made twentyone of these boxes and shipped them to the sheriff of Crittenden county and that be had made them for several other sheriils in the sotith. The boxes were used in a county which is three to one republican, yet there are not wantinr plenty of good democrats who wlll claim the legal election of Cate. If jus-ticc has her way Cate will be tired out of hls stolen seat and the manipulators of the sivindle will go to the penitentiary. It is to keep in oonpress such seamps as Cate that the Demócrata have resorted to flllbusterlng. The democrats perfer a revolution of tlie governmentto the un8eatitig of fradtilently certifled congressini'ii. Foree and fraud are the arguments eraployed by the democrats to curry elections iu the BOUth.
