White and Blue A horrible accident oceured on the T., A. A. & N. M. tracks in the south part of the city, last Monday niglit. It secms that Andrew Pfeifer, a Germán l.iborer vvho had been in the employ of Mr. Englemaii, who lives in Pittsfield about two miles or 80 out, startcd for homeabout 11 vi-i-. ïio imü ouen at iinapp's saloon on Washington streetdurin; the evening, and had gone home with Knapp to stay all night, but finally changod liis miad and decidid to return to Engleman's. He took to tlio railroad track evidently, and as tlie night was" very foggv and dark, the electric light bcing out, it is surmised that lic became conlused and In soine mannor got in the way of the 12:05 train north and was run over. It is also thought that the two o'clock train south must haTe run over him also, as lus body was horribly mutilated and scattered over 20 rods of space. The top of his head was smashed in, one leg cut offat the aukle and the other at the knee, both anus broken, and the body very much bruised and torn. In fact it was one of the most ghastly corp3es ever looked upon. The theory bas been advanced that it was a case of suicide from the fact that he was known to have been despondent soine months ago, but there is little to base that tbeory on. On eitïjer theory the terrible accident is one the rnilrcad company could not have forseen or be held responsible for. Coroner Clark impaneled a jury and held an inquest to-day, a verdict beiiifr rendcred in accordance with the above fncts.
