The King & Franktin Colops.il Shows giving a performance here on Tuesday, May 27th. Walt for it. Of the play that is to appear here noxt Friday evening, the San Francisco Cal] has this to say : "The lirst appearanoe here of Ilenry Chanfrau in the playof'K't, the Arkansaw Traveler,' last tiight, was honored by the presence of a full and friendly heuse. The title role BUStalned by Mr. Chanfrau, is the character made familiar to play-goers for many years by his fatlier, Frank Chanfrau, wlio was always a great favorito with the public. The son seems destiued to obtain the same amount of poplarity, and really deserves it, for a very careful, conscientious and intelligent rendition of a diflleult character part. He is manly, qu'et, determined and energetic at tlie right moment, avoiding thosc exaggerations which would seem almost inevitable amid such surroundings. In dialect and dress he is exact and has numberless fine touches whioh show the genuine artist. Th play luis been bcfore the public so long that everyone knows It for what it i?, a border melodrama of the most approved order, ful! ot st;irlling incidents, embclislied with puts and perfumee) with the sinell of povvder tliroughout. The plot is not of muco conspquence - it is simple enougli - bul the happenings are itll of the most exciting kind, and succeed each other wiih i rapiditj- which is almost surprising. The support is In the main quite gootl, and J. L. Clark and Bassett Willaid mnke a veiy 2'ood sketch of the two 'whisky bums,' aiul Kugene Bertram plays the vil lian in a natural and effective style. Mi.-s Carrie Kose Strong plays the dual clmrnctcr of mojter In the prologue, and child in the play.with great good tuste and expiession. She lias dramatic ability. TIip pleca w? very fuvorably received by the audieiice and will, not doubt, draw goud QOUSeS tonlght atid t -iiorrow." One of the many special features in "Kit, the Arkansas Traveler," is the celbrated "Hub" Colored Quartette.
