The followliigartlcle rclative to tbe murriage of President C. K. Adam, of Cornell University, for many years a professor in the University of Michigan, is taken from the N. Y. Muil and Express of July lOtli, which also publishes a portrait ot the groorn. It wlll be remembered that Mr. Adams' former wife died July 5, 1889, and was buried in Ann Albor the followiug Sunday: "A dispiitch from London nnnounccs the marrlage at Pttddlujjton (Jhnpel in that city, yesterday, of Charles Kendall Adiims, president of Cornell University, to Mrs. Mary Matthews Barnes, widow of the late A. S. Barnes, the well-known book publi8her, who died in Brookly n two years ago. The wedding was private. The newly married couple will spend the summer in Eugland, and will pay a visit to Andrew Carnegie at Cluny Castle in Scotland, eirly in August. The announcement of the wedJing was a complete surprise to even thu latinaste friends and near relatlves of the bride and groom. Wlien the dispatch was show n to the only survlving brother of the late A. S. Barnes by a Mail and Express reporter tliia morning lie said it was the first intimation lic had rccelved that such a marriage was contemplated. Preuldent Adams was on term? of intimacy with Mr. Barnes in liis llfetiroe and with the mcmbers of hia faniily. Of Inte ycars Mr. Barnes had evinced a great interest In Cornell University, and some time before liis death had arranged to endow th;it institutinn with a large sum of :ni)iiey to be used tor the erection of a building to be known as Barnes Hall. Mrs. Barnes tías also contributed largely to the equipment of Barnes hall since her hushand's denth.
