Mr. Taylor was a comp:irativel}' young umi), luit one who had been prominent iu the affdir of tbe statr, and who had bid fair to make for hiniself an extended fauie. Iu the legislatura of 1877-8 he was senator from the l'tfi district of this state, composed of the couuties of Shiawassee and Livingston, üe was a native of Michigan, having been born at North Raisinville, Monroe Co., Micli., June :( 1842. He leceived an academie education, and while attendilijf the University of Michigan in 1861 left his studies to jo in defense of his country, enllstlng in the 2d Mich. Vol. Inft'y as a private, and participatinjf Iu all the numcrous campaigns in wuich that gallant regiment was engascd. He was wounded at Fair Oaks in 181Í2, ngain at Jackson, Miss., in 1863, and sevcrely wounded at Fort Sttlinden later on in the same year, by reason of whicli he was difcharged for disability in ISOi. In January, 1805, Mr. Taylor again went to the field in active service, being commissioned by Gov. Blair as 2d lieutenant in the llth Mich. Infantry, soou rising by merit alone to a captainey. He was at one time provoat marshal of Charleston, Tenn., and waa mustered out of the service at the close of the war, in Septemlcr 18G5. His soldier record is a brave and noble one, and the wounds received while battling for hls country no doubt liad inucli to do with his death at such an early time of life, when mnnhood should be just In its prime. In the year 1873 Mr. Taylor served as a meinber of the state house of representatives, heilig re-elected in 1875, and chosen as Senator in 1877. He was chairman of the Senate Committeeon the famous University investigation in the Rose-Douglass troubles, and as sucb. was an indefatigable worker, sifting everything until the truth was reached. The funeral services will be held Thursday, to-morrow afternoon, from the fainily residence, No. 19 Church st., at 6 o'clock. At the reqnest of the deceased the G. A. R. wlll take charge of these services, and Welch Post will uttend in a body.
