Si.onim, a town in ltussia, was partially wrocked by a hurrieane on the 23d and many of the inhabitants killed. Michakl ExiiKiHT, in amateur oarsman. was drowned on the 22d in the Don river noar Toronto, Ont., while practicing in his shell. Hammkkfkst, the northornmost town in Europe, wus almost ontirely destroyed by firo on the 22d. The inhabitants were in a starvinjj condition. RoBKin(i. Samh-.hs, tho accountant of Bank of Nova Scotia at Woodstock, N. IS., was arrested on the 2'Jd, charged with stealing $40,000 of the bank' money. Wo.max suffrage was defeated on th 22d in the French Chamber of Deputies. Twkn'TY mon were drowned on the 23d from a raft of lojjs in tho rapids of the Ottawa river near Pimbroke, Can. A N8PATCB of tli(' -!:sd from London states that the old-timo passenger steamor Kgypt, of the National line, with a yaluáble u:vgo of miscellaneous freiffht, had.benn burued at sea. Her crew was saved. Thk American scliooncr William Rice, from Cape Ann for Icoland, sunk on the 28d, and tho crew of sixteen men perished with tho vpssel. Ir was said on the 25tb that almost the ontire wlieat erop of France had boon ruined by incessant rains. The losscs were èstimatéd at 500,000,000 francs. LoNDON advioes of the 2"th say that a band of Arnuuts mado a nirht attack upon the Montcnoifrin villano liogmoro, surprising the inhabitants, many of whom were murderod. Afterward the band was attacked by Turklsh troops and sixty Arnauts were killed. Ir was ofticially amtounced on tho 25th that there had been scvcnty fatal cases of Asiatic cholera in liaku and vicinity, in Klissia. The Horso and T rum peters, a public house in London which had been permitted to sell ardent spirits for 350 years past. had the ronewal of its li" cense refused on the 25th.
