A favorable report was made on the bill to incorpórate the Society of the Red Crosa. The tariiT was further discussod In the House the conference report on the District of i'olumbia approprintion bill was agreed to. At the evening scsslon two private pension bllls were passed. DOMESTIC. Hkniíy üivi.vs (colorcd) was hangod at Scranton, Miss., on the 29th for tlia murder uf a white sailor naniod Honry l'oigin April last. Pbksidbnt Hakkison sent a message to Congress on the 29th calling attention to the lottery evil and the necessity for legislation to prevent tho uso of the United States mails. Thb constltutlonal amendmont to aid the world's fair was passed by the Illinois Senate on the 29th. In the House a resol u tion deolaring it to be the sense of that body that the world's fair should be held on one site was defeated, and a resol utioa wasadopted declaring that it was beyond the province of the Legislatura todiotate to tho directory on tho quHstion of site. Rkv. David Pí.umh, his wifo and three chlldren. lost thoir lives by the burning of their home at Cale, Ind., on the 29th. Incendiarios were said to have started tbe fire. The fertilizer manufacturing flrm of J. B. Tygert & Co., of Philadelphia, failed on the 9th with assets of 8:4S,000 and habilities of 8317,000. Mrs. Chablbs Yokk and her aged mother, living at Bongies, Md., were murdered on the Mtfa. A man named Meeks was accused of the crime. Thk business part of Travers, Cal., was practically wipod out by flre on the 89th. Thk world's fair bill was passed by the Illinois Senate on the 30th uit. and the House adopted the rosolution for a constitutional amendment to raise funds. The Commorcial (ïazotto of Pittsburgh, Pa., oelebrated its 104th anniyersary on tho 29th. The paper was established bj John Scull, July 29, 1780, and printed on the flrst pross brought west of the Alleghany mountains. At Cleveland, O., on the 2!)th Anton Nowak, a moldor, shot and killed his wife and then blew his brains out. In Chicago on the SOtu uit. there were forty-six fire alarms. Advicem of the 3uth uit. say that all through Now Mexico. Amona and some parts of Colorado, and also in old Mexico, no rain liad fallón fortnonths, thonsands upon thousands of range cattle were lying de ad in the parohed valleys and thousands more were dying for want of wator and frass. Haii.-siom;s in the vicinity of Casselton and Walburg, N. 1)., on the 30th uit. almost totally destroyed the crops over large areas. W t á "TT on the 3Oth uit. In K E. Ayer's lumber yard in Chicago caused a loss of S150.000. A FUS onginating in the I'ew building at Séneca V'alls, N. Y., at 3 o'clock on the morniiii? of the 30th uit burned over an aroa of nearly three acres, and many of the bost business buildings in that village were wiped out, including the three newspapr offices. Loss, 8700,000. A tornado swept across New Hampshire from tho northeast on the31st uit. and wrought havoc in many pUees. No lives wero lost. TmiiTEKN book-makors were flned 8600 each by Justice Prindiville in Chicago on the Sist uit. for maintaining poolrooms contrary to law. Thk Omaha (Nob.) Ropublican, the oldest paper in the city, suspended publication on the 30th uit. The business portion of Walnut, 111., was destroyed by flre on the Sist uit. Loss, $125,000; insurance, $40,000. In a jealous rage on the 31st uit. Jeremiah Miller, living near Mechanicsburg. Pa., shot and killed his wife and then took his own life. Nine children were left orphans. Rkpohts of the 31st uit. from Westorn Kansas say that the hot winds of the past few days had burned up the corn and that many flelds would not yield a single ear. The 31st uit. was tho hottest day in Boston since 1885, the thermometer registering 95 degreos in the shade. New York also suffered severely (rom the heat. One huxdred years ago on the Sist uit. the first mechanical patent was issued by the Uovermuent. It wasgranted to Samuel Hopkins for making pot and pearl ashes. The total number of patents issued during the century was 433,432. The constitutional amendment granting the city of Chicago the right to issue 85,000,000 in bonds in aid of the world's fair was passed by the Illinois Legislature on the 31st uit, provided the people voted in favor of the bond Issue. At St. Louis on the Sist uit. the thermometer registcred 100 dogroes, the hottest day of thp season.
