The next Issue of Harper's Weekly will contaln, among other attrftp.tions, i portrait, with biographical notlce, of the late Cardinal Newman; also an account of the National Encampment, at Boston, of the Grand Army of the Kepublic. Mr. Frank K. Stockton has written fl novelette for The Century to be called "The Squirrel Inn." Mr. A. 1$. Frost, whose successful designs for Mr. Stockton's "Uudder Granjje" will be remembered, is to Ilústrate it. "Across the Andes" is the title of an interesting article by Tlieodore Ghild in the September number of Hurper's Magazine. It describes a recent journey made by the author along the line of the great Transandine Railway from Buenos Ayres to the Pacific slope, and is the flrst of an important series of papers on the South American republics. Thirteen iüustrations by William Hamilton Gibion, T. de Thulstrup, and othcrs, accompany the article. The Centnry's series on the "Gold Hunters of California," with articles by General Fremont and others, is to begin in the November number. A prelimlnary article, "How California carne into the Union,'1 will be pubüshed In September, as in that month occurs the fortieth anniversary of the admission of California.
