Edwin B. Winans, Governor-elect Of
Michigan, was oom ac Avon, ín. x. on May 26, 1826 and resides nt tLe present time in Hamburg, Michigan. He was educated at Albion college, Michigan, and is a farmer by occupation. He was a member of the Michigan Legislature from 1801-1805, and vvas elected a delégate to the constituUOD&l conrention held at Lansing in 18G7. Frora 1876 to 1880 he held the office of Probate Judge of Livingston county. He was elected as demoorat to the IStli congress. His eleetion to the governorship was a grreat victorj' for the democi'ats. The determining inllnence was a fusión of the democrats with tlie Patrons of Industry the membert of whlch order, It is believed, will hold the balance of power in botli branches ot' the legislature.
