Tlie ra] interesl shown in the ecclesiastical trial pf Mr. MaêQueary, which is now taking place in Cleveland, Ohio, will direct special attention to this new and enlarged edition of the now famous book which is the cause of this auimated theological controverey. In the new preface Mr. MacQueary answers his critics, and restates his views on some of the most important pointe. The Detroit Journal Year Book is on our table, and we lind it not ouly usefnl but decidedly tasty in appearance, its illustrations and typographical work being excellent. It contains engravings of the public buildings of Michigan, has 100 pages of condensed matter of general interest, and mattere which aperson often wants to refer to, has a summary of the "Events of the Year," contains the organization of the federal and state governments and officers, and much other instructive matter. Price, 25c; by mail, ;0c Taking up the January Wide Awake one is led to reflect that this magazine has a particularly happy and kindly way of enlisting the interest and the fancy of its readers by its Prize Competitions. lts amusing "Nonsense Animáis" were enjoyed by young and old and showed that the drawing-lessona at school had really trained young fingera to express ideas with the pemil: Öie 'Lambkin, Prig or Hero" couipetition was not a bad "course" in Moral Philos(iphy. The "Prize Anagram" competition amused thousands of readers. For 1891 Miss Rimmer's Prize Art-series: "The Drawingof the Child-Figure" bids fair to be of great interest to children, while the Prize "Problema in gy, by E. H. Hawley of the Smithsonian Iustitution will rail forth the effqrts of the student in the Latin and High Schools. The stories and articles of the January number are each excellent of their kind and are by such authors as Susan Coolidge, Mrs. Burton Harrison, Margaret Sidnev, Elbridge S. Brooks, Ernest Ingersoíl, Kirk Munroe, etc. Wide Awake is $2.40 a year. D. Lothrop Company, Boston, Mass.
