"The Workingttian in Australia" is the subject of the first of two articles to appearin the February and Maxch mimbers of the Century on the "Anglo-Saxon in the Southern ïlemisphere." These articles are written by Mr. George R. Parkin, who will be remembered a.s the author of a striking arlicle on Uppiugtiaui, and another cm "The Reorganizaron of the British Empire," published in the Century in 1888. "Iron-Smelting by Modern Methods" will be the subject of the Februarv ar;icle in the American Industries Series now running in The Popular Siience Monthly. Every rnan who wishes to understand the progress of the great industries that have made the wealth and prosperity of the United States should rerd tliis series. Colonel Dodge, who is writing a series of books intended not only to set forth ;he achievements of certain great military leaders, hut through them the origin and growth of the art of war, will shortly publish "Hannibal," as the second volume of the series. As Col. Oodge has been time and again over the various battle fields and marches of Hannibal, and bas made an exceediugly careful study of the subject, bis work cannot fail to be of great interest. It presents capital pictures of manners and custoins at the court at the time of the great Elizabeth, makes us acquainted with some of her favorites, tells of fes;ivities carried on with barbarie splendor and gives us a further insight into he strange Russian cliaracter of which Turgenieff and Tolstoi have given us some glimpses. The Detroit News Association will next month (February) publish "Tlie Juarterly Register of Current History," auseful and beautiful illustrated magazine of the world's doings for the quarer, and no library in the land is compete without it. The first number conains the history of the past year, writen in a style which while correct is attractive. It cannot be too cordially commended. The price is 25 cents or il per annum.
