One of the most obseryed men on the floor of the senate during its closing hours was senator-elect Kyle from South Dakota, who had come to learn what he could of his new functions. Mr. Kyle suceeeds Senator Moody, who only held his seat a few months and was elected by a combiuation of democrats and alliance men ; he will therefore be what is called au "Indocrat, an Independent." He was born in Femer, Ohio, in 1853, and is a yery young man to achieve senatorial He was graduated from Oberlin College in 1880, and then studied theology in the Western Theological Seminary in Alleghany, Penn., where he finished in 1882. For a while he served as pastor of a Congregational church in Salt Lake City. Five years ftgo he went to Yankton, Dakota and is at present financial secretary of Yankton College. He has been a member of 3tate senate, and is said to favor free ;oinage of silver, and is also an advo:ate of all the remarkable theories of the Farmer's Alliance.
