In the sumirior of 1889 while in Milwaukee lie was stricken with nis ürst struke of jiaralysis, a very light attack which was feit in his hglit hand and arm alone. The Flankinton house, in which he i took especial pride, he ian lor vears at a loss siuipiy because he was bound I that Milwaukee should have a hotel second to none in the United States. Oí' late years. however, th hotel has paid a bis dividend and it ís estirnated that lie eventually got back all the money that he liad put into it. Mr. Plankinton never held a public office. His wealth was estiraated at about ! $10,000,000 and he was known to possess in the tieighborhood of $3,000,000 vvorth of property in this city.
