There is a greater display of taste and literary style in the composition, and an evident effort is made to appeal to the intelligence and refinement of the reader. This is seen not only in the advertisements of the large ïnercantile establishments, where trained skill is employed, bnt as well in the three line advertisement which is written by the advertiser himself, and which, in terseness and directness of style, can lay claim to great literary merit.
