The new council met Monday evening for the first time. President Co.. ley did not wearytbe meeting with a lengfliy inaugural, but simply aasumed thereina i-i if be had alwaya ben accustomed tothem, and proeeeded to business ander the i.l.l rules. All were present exee]it Aid. Allmendinger, of the 3d ward. A communicatíon was received irom the Board of Public Works asking for the following: "That a sidewalk be ordered built on the south side of Hill St., trom Washtenaw to Fourth Aves.. also in front of the following places : O. I.. Matthews' lot on Maynard and ferson Sts. ; Frank J. Lewis on Jefferson St. ; Gott estáte on Jefferson St. ; umi C. Hurd's on Washtenaw Ave. The communication was laid on the table. A petition signed by Noah Oheever, Leonhard Gruner and E. Treadwell, asking permission to ereet two dwelling houses fronting on S. Main St., was received and referred to the Board of Fire Coumiissioners. Sixteen residents of the 3rd ward petitioned for a sidewalk on the south side of Miller Ave., froni Main St. t Seventh St., or to the present city limits, also for crosswalks on First and Chapia Sts., and the same was referred to sidewalk committee. A petition signed by the school board and eleven residents of the tith ward, asking for the extensión of the water mains from Washtenaw Ave. on Hill St., to Forest Ave., and the placing of a fire hyilrant thereon. Keferred water committee. Aid. Mann ofFered the following : Resolved, That bids be received for the printing of the official proceedings of the council and Board of Public Works for the following year; bids to be received between 10 and 12 o'clock, April 25; printing to be done accordins; to specifications of coumiittee appointed. The following coinmittee was appointed Aids. Mann, ïaylor and Hall. By Aid. Hall : Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed, of which the president shall actas chairman, to draft suitable rules for the action of this council for the coming year. Carried, and the following committee appointed, President Cooley, Aids. C. Martin and Wines. By Aid. Chris. Martin : Resolved, That the liquor bonds for the coming year be tixed at $3,000. Carried, and the following committee on bonds appointed, Aids. Herz, Hall and Mann, and the city attorney. On motion of Aid. Mann the council adjourned to Monday evening, April 27th. The announcement of the standing conimittees was postponed on account of the vacancy in the 4th ward. The street sprinkler did its flrst work on our streets yesterday. The demócrata of the 4th ward will nomínate their candidate for alderman to-morrow evening. The livery stock of the late M. M. Green is to be sold at public aiu-tion, on Thureday, April 30th. Ann Arbor never saw a prettier sight than the Kirmess will be on Friday evening, at the opera house. The attention of the Board of Public Works is called to the condition of the alley back of the Main St. stores, runing from E. Washington to E. Liberty Sts. The remains of Mis. Harriet W. Brown, formerly a resident of Ann Arbor, bat more recently of Detroit, were brought to this city for interment last Friday. A colored lad named Wm. Henry Artis has been gent to the reform school, at Lansing, by his mother, who could uot manage the lad. He is about 12 years old. The Argus makes a frantic appeal to the democrats to see that every deruocrat in the 4th ward is registered to-day. As the ward gave only 85 democratie majority on the state ticket on the 6th inst., Bro. Beakes' frantic appeal seems ludicrous, indeed. The souvenir teaspoon fad has reached this city Randall has a design that is very pretty. The bowl of the spoon contains a handsomely etched picture of the main building of the IJniversity, while on the handle is the word Ann Arbor. It is of solid silver, oxodized, and is a handsome souvenir.
