Frank Greening, of Chelsea, has resumed his duties as postal clerk, the latal accident to his substituto not scaring liim off. ïhe Ypsilanti house, corner of Congress and River sts., has been closed again. Did not pay. Fred. Graf, of Saline, died last week aged 47 vears. He was a single man but highly respected in the community. In making his assessment this spring, the assessor of Chelsea finds that a number of the estates have to be taken off the roll, beeause they have vauished. If the smart alecks who tore the sign from our oflice door, last Friday night will please report tbeir names we will endeavor tomake it interesting for them. -Saline Observer. II. AV. Bassett is doiug a grcat act in tlie way of repairs on the N. G. Fowler property, tearing out partitions, painting, paperiug and fixing it up in modern style. Mr. i?. and fanüly expect to move tlicre and make it their future home.- Saline Observer. Two prisoners in the Monroe rat trap culled bycourtesya jail, made i fie ree onslaught on Tumkey Teddy a few days since, in an attempt to escape, but 1 though mach lighter than either of the men he managed his part of the fight so well that both prisoners are now dead. Good for him. A pickle factor? will figure among the industries of Ypsilanti this season. Cucumbers will be chiefly used, but "cowhorn potatoes" will not be rejected should the cucumbers prove a small erop. - Adrián Press. The writer of the above has evidently been engaged in the pickle business himself. The Ilowell Dernocrat says that Pack Woods & Co. havejust purchased a 100,000,000 acre tract of pine on the Auöable river, and that it is one of the largest bunches of pine left in the state. We should think so. That number of acres will nearly niake three such states as Michigan.- South Lyon Picket. In April, 1S7S, Ira Oiover, while plowing, ran across a small land turtle, and just for fun, carved his back witfa a cross, his initials, and the date and then set hirn free. Two weeks ago, while passing through a piece of woods but a few rods from the place where he fonnd the turtle in '78, he saw a full grown land turtle, and when within a few feet saw the marks on bis back. He remembered the circumstances, caught the turtle and took it home. He will label him with a metal tag and let hila run aaain. - Chelsea Standard. A young men's association has just been organized in Aun Arbor for "the ii)inovement of the spiritual, mental, Bocial and physical condition of young men." They wili build a $10,000 club house "with "bowling alley, billiard room smoking room, card room etc." Just what the "etc." may embrace, that will still further add to the "spiritual improvement", we are not advised. We have never known, billiards, cigars and cards to contribute to the spiritual improvement of any one ; possibly they may in this new club house. - South Lyon Picket. Oíd fogy ideas have to be done away with, and gradually new and more liberal ones come to the front and take their place.
