Xo room in the Art Loan is of greater interest to students of bistory, to citizens and to patriota than the ;. a. r. room draped wifh American flags, emblems so dear to every loyal heart. This room contains many war trophies, placed both upon its walls and in its show cases. Here is a section of tree from the bloody field of Chickamauga. The shell and ballets are still embedded in it, mutely teaching us the lesson thatthere "never was a good war, nor a bad peace." As one of the wall decorations, there is tastefully arranged upon a black ground, the beautiful swords and sashes presented to Gen. Baxter by the officers of the 7th regiment and by his brigade officeis. Here is an historie old flag captured from the Union troops at Fort Donelson and recapture.d by them afterward. Here is the coat of an artillenofficer issued by the State of Michigan and worn until the battle of Bitton Rouge, where its owner was twiee wounded. There is a Confedérate flag captured in Virginia during Gen. Grant's overland campaign. Au interesting relie is a reproduction of "The Vicksburg Daily Artizan" priutcd upon wall paper, July 2, lSclíí, wliile the luittlo of Stettysburg was in progrese, and of course before the snrrender to Gen. Grant. Many other interesting relies are found here each inntely testifying to ;he snfferings and the unparalleled leroism of the men wlio made so inuch of America's grand history. In the hall upstairs is a íine collection of original designs, object drawinga and kindergarten work, done by the chihlren of the'public schools.
