AVe have lieard of haonted houses, barns, etc, but we believe we never heard, until this week, of a haunted sidewalk. It ia tok! and solemnly vouched for by parties never believed to be superstitious that at a certain place along the sidewalk on W. Huron street, of late "raps" have been loudly and repeatedly heard in broad daylight One young lady was passing by when she distinctly heard the rape directly nnder her feot ; she shortly after informed a party of threeor tour more of her sex, and they returned to investígate . The raps were sudden and distinct that all but one of the party hastily leaped from the walk - somc of them aceompanying their leap with a screana - ihe one remaining, getting down on her knees and looking ander the sidewalk, hut discovered nothiug that would iu anv way account for it. One of the young ladies on going home informed her father of the facts and on invesüaation, it was found to beat the idéntica) spot where a Mr. Holden was killed some thirtv years a;o. Who can account lor this stranaje noise at this hite day? J. B. S. - The steani, heating, plumbing and gas fixtures in the C. R. Whitmanresidence cost !f3,000. Schuh i Muehlig are doing the work.
