Burean ot jPablicity and Promotion of the World's Öolutobiasi Kxposition was born iu Pikes Co., Missouri. Formerly a soldier as a sou of the confederacy, Major Haudy became a journalist. It was in Richmond iu 1867, that he engased hirnself as a newepaper reporter. Thereupon he was calfed to iill the editorship of the "Dispatch" of that city. He was tlien sent to L'u ba by the New j York "Tribune" and so excellent was ! nis treatment of the "Virginia" aftair assigned to him, that upon lus return ! hewas appointed au editor of that paper by Whltelaw Reed. In JSTü he again visited Richniond and was at once chosen comniisaioner froin Virginia [ to attend the Philadelphia Exposition. Jlajor Handy beeame so attached tothe city of brotherly love that he lias sn-e assisted on the Philadelphia "Times" and "Press." He founded the "JNews" and more recently has been a correspondent in Washington. Major Handy is considera! one of the ablest journalists America has ever produced and bis appointment to take charge of the journahstic irtiou of the World's Fair will only add to the success oí' that large enterprise.
