The ncw University Hospital, in whieh the state of Michigan has invested $50,000 and the city of Ann Arbor $25,000, is now in complete running order, and is iilled to overflowing with patiënte. The building is copied after the Jolius HopkJn'e Iiospitol, in Baltlmore and as far as it goes is quite a model. The followtng gives au Idea f the shape of the building: In. the long ving extending soutli are two large wards, for patients, the one below for men, the oue above for women. The cote are arranged along the sides of the room, and under each coit is a ventilator that draws the fiml air from the bottom of the f loor constantly. The pipe from these ventilators connects with a larga suaft tliat runs into a huge VBntUatlng chimney, located in about the center 'il' tliis wing. About eighteen feet trom the top of this chiraney is a large team co!l, which is constantly lieated, and wtiich ereatee a dratt. The heat is lot mto the rooms trom wall registers located about six feet trom the floor, and the syetem appears to work admirably. Ir ougbt to. fop it is eertalnly a very elabórate and BxpensiVe one, and judglng by the Kh.ifts and plpea, oí all kinds and descri])tion, ii mnst have èoat half as ninrii as the building Itself. The portion of the building trhlch runs eat and weat and ïorins the croee, is out up into single wards, Uving rooms for the noraes, closets, bafh tooms etc., the two floors being practienlly alike. The syatem of heating and ventllatlng is the same tturoughout the entire building. The noi-tli end of tlie building, forming the circular end of the cross, is occupied by the ampitheatre, where the cliiiies are held, and the Btraighi up and down iiciiiiies. it is aaid, wlll accommodate 470 studente at one time. 'lliis part oí the building does iM)t appear to gtve the eatisfaction lioped lor. It is said that the skyUgh1 is pot laxge enough, and the arrauement of tflue aeata unsatlslactory. The seata tto not eircle around the outer wall, as at first intended, but are upon. the opposite eide of the room, and the light froni the Windows do not produce the right effect, it is claimed, all of which wlll undoubtedly be remedied in time. lu iliis ]ai-i. oí the building ai-e also private operating rooms of the professors. ;mil a dlspenfilllg room that sccnis !i bc viry complete. In the basement of thla part wlll be loiiud the kltchen, laundry, iron,ng rooms, and sleeping rooms for lonicstics. In the greal basement index the south wtag Is nothlng but he lu'.-niug and ventllatlng uhafts md pipes. Here one can obtaln an excellent Idea oí the elabórate sysem cinploycd, and alsi eee enough o form some Judgmeat ol the greal xpenee it must have been to oonstruci t. The woodtrork of tbe eatlre buildii,u' is of white and Norway pine, iiiislied in oil, and loaks very neat. ii tlio large warde there is very litle woodwork. 'Diere are no casngs to the doors or wlodOWB, and Mie base boards are narrow with rounded tops. The side walls are ronntled into the celllnge, ateo, so that Uure are no crevices and corners, tlnis mafctng it easy to clean. All oí the little details lia ve been thonuln oí, niaking the (rooms as perfeci as possible. The buliding is now ligbted with gas, bul lias been wired and will soon be li.ulitnl liy electricity. The City water works snpply it with water. Th new Homeopathie Hospital, wliich i.s located to the west of the Univereity hospita], is in process of construction, but probably wlU not U-. ready for occupancy tuis season. Ji is patterned after the university bnepiital, except the unalghtly round hooee end, wblch has been very sensibly made square. It will not be as large, but will be fully as convenlent, and in somc particulars it is thoughi the errors of the fii-st buildlnj? will be rectified. Mldway between the two inga is ;i boiler house, built right down in the hill, the roof belng level M-ith ttoe groand on the east. A tall chimney n-i.sos from it, whlch may or may no add to tlie beauty of the buildings when completad. This boiler house wiU furnish steam heat for both hoepltale, and is vrell equipped. The landscape that etretches out beforc oiic's trom almosrt any wlnilow in either of these fine buildings, is magnificent, even In winter. There is plenty of íood for a palnter's brush liere, for beauty is emerywbere. The air is always pure upon fílese Mgh bluffs, and a quietneee rtigm that ought to be conducive to the speedy reeovery of patients ivlio seek this health preWT-vteg institution. The truly generous is the truly wise; And he, who loves not others, lives unblest. --Home. The drying upa siugle tear has more Of liouest fame, than shedding seas of gore. -Lord Byron.
