Wabhisgtoit, Peb. 17. the bilí reported and placee on the calendar was the urgent deficiency bilí- Mr. Hale that he would cali it up to-morrow- niaking appropriation lor the improveinent of the Columbea river. Mr. Gibson, of Louisiana, from the committee on commerce, reported a bilí $] 5,000,000 for the improvement of the Mississippi river and it was placed on the calendar. Ten millions of the amount is for the river from the hcad of the passes, near itf mouth. to the mouth of the Oliio river (not more than S2.0O0.oon t.r. n o,-„ ( - j ---, ,_ w v v_, v ..-v i-ZtULl ed in any one year): and 85,000,000 is for the river from t]le mouth of the Ohio to the mouth of the Illinois. In reply to questions by Tvir.
