Mr. Gibson, of Louisiana, from the committee on commerce, reported a bilí $] 5,000,000 for the improvement of the Mississippi river and it was placed on the calendar. In reply to questions by Tvir. Allison Mr. (;j,snn said that the improrements for the riverabove the mouth of the Ilbnois. were to be inölBded in the river and harbor bill, ivhile the improvemerits oontemplated by the bill .eportea were to be excludecl from the nver and harbor bilí. Mr. Allison said that he did not like the idea of drawing the line of appropriations at the mouth of the Illinois river.
