On Monday evening, at about 8 o'clock, Hon. Charles II. Riehmond, of this city, after a long illuess, passed away, at the age of 71 years. He had heen a suflerer for many inonths, being conflued to his liouse and his room with cáncer of the stomach. Mr. Riehmond was born at Aurora, Cayuga Co., N. Y., March 6th, 1821. He carne to Michigan in 1837, flrst settling in Grand Kapids. His flrst public position was chief clerk to the Superintendent and Indian Agent of Michigan , in 1848, the tribes with which he dealt being the Chippewas, Pottawattamies and Winnebagos. This position he held for one year and then returned to his home in New Vork. He carne to Ann Arbor l'roin Aurora in 1858, and has rei-icled here ever since. He helped organize and was the first casbier of the lst National Bank of this city, and for several years lias been its president. He was a candidate of the democratie party from the 25th congressional district of N. Y., in 1856. In 1863 he was a candidate for regent in this state. In 1867 he was chosen a member of the constitutional convention from this county in which body he served with inuch honor. He was one of the vice presidents of the national democratie convention at Cincinnati, which nominated Hancock, and has always been a representative man of his party. In 1883-4 he represented this county in the state senate. At the time of his death he was a member of the uational Commission of the World's Fair for Michigan. Mr. Richmond was a member of St. Andrew's church and for many years has acted in the capacity of a vestry man. Funeral services will be held from that church this afternoon, at 3 o'clock. Bishop Gillespie officiating. He leaves a wife and two children, who have the deep sympathy of the community in their sorrow. The meeting of the County Horticultural Society for next week Saturday will pe an important one. The great subject of "Waïon Eoads" will be the question for diseussion, and will pe lead by Messrs. E. A. Nordman, Fred B. Braun, and Hon. James L. Lowden. Everybody should come. March 4th, at the court house.
