Amnog the recent events and c bange in the uniyeireity world, the ome we ooniruented upon has been the reiign of President Adams, of CorneJl Tjiniversity. The new president, Dr. Sliurman, ivas born May 22d, 1854. Hf attended the usual schools and iu 1867 he became clerk i:n a general store Itesolvtag tlven to have au eduoatiion, he attended several colleges at hm home in Nova Scotia. AÍterwards lie atudted in 'lxndon, Edinburgh and Paris, won several IiírIi prizes at Oxford, spent several jrears in Germany at the best universities, where he became aequaiinted witli President White, of Corneli, who was tüen our miniwter to Germany, and who in 1886 recomnieníTed him to a Oliair iin Corneli, where he became head of the PhdJosophteal Department, and where he always has had large and enthusiiastfc classes. His influence has been graduaUy extendinp; and students have come from all parta o America to complete their studies under him. He will undoubtedly make a .s])lendid president.
