Science In The Hencoop
The simian tongne is no longer the only lang-uage of "dumb animáis" which is being studied by mankind. M. Pevot du Haudray has gone a step further than Prol Garnier, and has carried science into the hencoop. His manner of ascertaining whether the barndoor f owl clucks in a tongne underderstood by all its kind consists in placing- a telephone first in one henhouse where the f amily are at home. When the long-suffering reoeiver has been cackled into for half an hour it is taken away, and caused to repeat all the gossip in a neighboring hencoop. The reBults of the expenments are said to be marvelous, and the Academie des Sciences is awaiting a lecture on the subject with the greatest interest.
