Hafper' s Bazar for September 24th will contain, among many other attraetive features, an article by Elizabeth Cynthia Barney giving the Iristor)' of " A Girl's Four Years at Columbia College. " A series of papers on social and domestic subjects, entitled " Day In and Day Out, " by Marión Harland, will be begun, the first artiele being called " The Mute Angel." A beautiful and touching poem on the late John Oreenleaf Whittier will be contributed by llarriet Prescott Spofford. A novel by a new American author is to be published shortly in Appletons' carefully chosen ïown and Country Library. The title is "In Oíd St. Stephen's," and the author is Miss Jeanie Drake, of Charleston, S. C. Her story presents a fascinating sketch of the life of an oíd family fn South Carolina in the early part of the century. General Lafayette and Calhoun are among the characters introduced in this book, which presents a series of fresh and most interesting pictures of phases of life, customs, society and incidents in A novel by a new American author is to be published shortly in Appletons' carefully chosen town and country library.
