Among the prominent and ïnfluential citizens of Washtenaw county, whose portrait we take great pleasure in presenting this week, is Carlile P. McKinstry, of Yprilanti, the popular candidate for register of deeds on the Kepublican ticket. Mr. McKinstry has lived in this counly nearlv all kis life. He received nis edneation ia the Ypsilanti High School, and ia a gentleman of culture and refinement.both in social and busineaa life. David Edwards, of Ypsilanti, nnder whom Mr. McKinstry received his first business trainingen his nominating speech ut the recent counly convention, spoke of our subject in glowing ternas, sayiug he lad known him from his earliest boyhood, bad watched him grow to nianhood, and he knew him to be a loval Republioan.ann a man of sterling integrity, vrorthy of the confidence of the people of tlie county. Mr. McKinB'ry is 38 years ol age and has lived in Washtenaw for 32 years, and during that time has been a close observer of the affairs of the county, and eonsequent'y is thoroughly conversant with the needs of the people. For thirteen years he was connected with the Peninsular paper company, of Ypsilanti, as book-keeper, superintendent and treasurer. He is a expert accountant, which especially qualifies him for the position of register of deeds. It is not necessary, nor have we the space, to go into the minute details of the life-history of this man, suffice it to say that the people of Washtenaw county will make no mistake if they elect him to the office he seeks. That he is in every way eminenllj qualified for the position is fully attested by the following excerpts from our contemporaries, who recognize in him a man who can le entrusted with a public office, and who will subserve hisowninteretk to that of the puoiic's. Ttie followiug from the Washtenaw Post, one of the stauneh pupers of the Democratie party, shows bow popular Mr. McKinstry itwith all clsse!?: "C. P. The Detroit Journal says of Mr. McKinstry. "Althouh Washtenaw counly ib Democratie by a large majority, the itepublicans this year expect to elect one or two oflicers. There is a goud chance of the election of C. P. McKinstry,Republican nominee for register of deeds of Ypsilanti. Mr.McKinstry is of a family well known in Washtenaw connty for the past 60 years. He has held high positions in Yptilanti for many years, and is thoroughly competent for the office. He is the only one of the McKinstry family that is a Republican.
