The following affidavit has jnst been made pnblic. No Irishman who reads it wül feel like voting for a man holding the eentiments it shows that Mr. Cleveland holrts: State of New Vork, county of Erie, city of Buffalo: Edwin C. Robbins, being duly sworn, deposes and says that he resides in the city of Buffalo aforesaid, and has resided in said city ever since Jauuary, 18B0, aud that he has been personally acquaiated with Grover Cleveland, now president of the United States, for twentv years and upward, and has ahvays been a meraber of the Democratie party. That at the Democratie city convention, held in the city of Buffalo in the autumn of 18ÍS1, the iirst nomiaation that was made was that of John C. Sheehan for the office of coniptroller of the said city; that prior to auch convention the name of said Grover Cleveland was the principal one mentioned for the office of mayor of said city, and he had agreed to accept the noinination, but on the day of such convention and immediately after such nomination of said John C'. Sheehan, as aforesaid, said Cleveland refused to accept said nomination for mayor, he then and there saying, in deponeut's presence, with an oath, that he would not go on the ticket with that Irishman, meaning said John C. Sheehan. And deponent further says that said Cleveland then and there agreed to accept such nomination only upon coudition that said Sheehan should withdrawfroni the ticket and froin the nomination of comptroller, and he, said Sheehan, was iuauced so to withdraw in order that said Cleveland might be nominated and accept such nomination. Aud deponent further says that on several occasions he has heard said Cleveland assert that he would never vote for an Irishinau, and particularly uot for an Iri&h Roman Catholic, for the i-eason that he believed them all treacherous and unworthy of support. EDWIN C. IÏÜCB1NS. Subscribed and sworn to this 29th day of October, lttóii, bei ure nu-, Kosewei.l m. Norton, Notar; Public in and for Erie County, N. Y. I have a word to say about tlie Irish vote. I see it stated tliat tho Deniocrats boas? of iMKvfng the masa of tlieiu in thetr ranUs. This year it is one oí the mysteries of politica i i:it a question which interests ltiLfhi-iul so supremely, which is cunvasscd aluiost as much tu Londou as ít is in New York, should have the Irish vote on the side of Great Britain. If the Irish vote were solidly for protection they oould defy all the uiachiuations of the Democratie party for free trade and tlirow their iiiÜuence on the side of the hoiue niarket of Anierica against the side of the foreign market of Knland. I ani uiiwilHiitf to believe that with liht and knowledge hefore thexn they will deliberately vote on the side of their former oppressors. - -James G. Blaine, Oct. 14.
