COÜNCIL CHAMBER. I ABN Arbok, Nov. 21, 1893. f Regular session. Callecl to order by the President, the Hon. Mortimer E. Cooley. Eollcalled. Quorum present. Absent - Aid. Wines, Ferguson, Rehberg, Taylor, Kitson, Prettyman- 6. The journal of the last session was approved. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS. A communication from the National Board of Fire Underwriters was accepted, read and referred to the Fire Department Committee. A petitition signed by Charles R. Whitman, Martha S. Oswald and more than seven others, a-sking for the laying out and constructlon of a street, described as follows, that is to say: On the Unes of Huron street projected easterly, from ïwelfth street to Observatory street; also a street described as follows: On the lines of Thirteenth street projected southerly in the present course to Huron street. OM motion of Alderman Martin the petition was referred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by Cari Belser and eleven others, residents and property holders on Olivia Avenue, city of Ann Arbor, asking that sidewalks be ordered built on the east and west sides of Olivia Avenue from Hill to Israel streets. Accepted and referred to the Committee on Sidewalks. Aid. Martin moved that the President is hereby requested to order the Marshal to bring in all the absentees of this Council at once. Adopted. Aid. O'Mara moved that the matter of the defeiise of certain suits against the city now pending in the Circuit Court be referred to the Finance Committee and the City Attorney,to einploy counsel to assist the City Attorney in the defense of the same. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Schairer, Martin, Herz, Fillmore, Snow, O'Mara, Pres. Cooley. Nays - None. MOTIONS AND KESOLUTIONS. By Aid. Martin: Resolved, That the resignation of Thomas J. Keech be not accepted, and that Mr. Keech be requested to continue in the service of the city as president of the Board of Public Works. Which resolution unanimously prevailed. Aid. Martin moved that two ñames be added to the Sewer Committee. Adopted. President Cooley appointed the following committee on sewers: Pres. Cooley, Aid. Wines, Herz, Snow, O'Mara, Taylor, Prettyman. By Aid. Fillmore: Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be instructed to cause the sidewalk in front of N. W. Cheever's property on Chapín street to be removed toits proper place in the street and said walk to be rebuilt and made safe to the traveliug public. Adopted. On motion a recess of h'fteen minutes was taken. At the expiratiow of fifteen minutes President Cooley called the council to order, whereupon Aid. Kitson ofïered the following resolution: Resolved, And it is hereby ordered that the several sums of money paid, laid out, and expended for the grading, construction and repair of sidewalks in front of and adjacent to private property, in the city of Ann Arbor, for the year ending on the third Monday of October, 1892, as set down on and contained in the certifícate of the same to this Common Council by the Board of Review, with ten per cent thereof added thereto, be and the same are hereby assessed and levied on and against the several lots or parts of lots, in front of or adjacent to which the' said sidewalks were respectively graded, constructed and repaired, as appears in and by the said certifícate, and the said assessment is hereby dulycertilied to the city assessor, and the said city assessor is hereby directed to assess thé said several sums of money, with ten per cent thereof added thereto on and against tbe said several 'pareéis of lands wentioned in the said certifícate, pursuant to the Charter and Ordinances, in such case made and provided. It is f urther ordered that the City Ulerk do certify this order and resolution to the city assessor. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Schairer, Martin, Herz, Fillmore, Snow, O'Mara, Kitson, Prettyman, Pres. Cooley- 9. !Nays- None. On motion the Council adjourned.
