Knute Wclson, of Aleaxndria, Minn., was born in Norway, February 2d, 1843; he carne to the United States in 1849; received an academie education, studied law, was admitted to the bar and has since practiced. He served in the Union army as a private and non-eommissioned offieer in the 4th TVisconsin during three years of the late war, and was a member of the aesembly in the Wisconsin legislatura in 1868-'69. He was prosecuting attorney of Douglass county, Minnesota, in 1872-'73-'74, and was state senator in the Minnesota legislature, 1875-'76-'77-'78. He was presidential elector on the Garfield and Arthur ticket, and is a member of the board of regents of the state University of 'Minnesota. He was elected to the 48th, and re-elected to the 49th congrees, as a republican. He represents the 5th Minnesota congressional district, which includes 32 counties.
